In November, the Roaring Fork School District is launching a visioning process to learn what our community’s hopes are for our children and what qualities they want to see in our schools. We want to understand if we’re on course and hear where you would like to see us go next.
We will be hosting an evening meeting in each community that is open to all staff, parents, students, community members and partners:
- Tue, Nov 6 at Glenwood Springs Elementary School (915 School St) from 5:30-7:30pm
- Wed, Nov 7 at Crystal River Elementary School (160 Snowmass Dr) from 5:30-7:30pm
- Thur, Nov 8 at Basalt High School (600 Southside Dr) from 5:30-7:30pm
Meetings will be conducted each night in both English and Spanish in separate rooms. There will be free food and childcare provided at these meetings. (You must RSVP here to guarantee a childcare spot). The conversations that happen at these meetings are a valuable part of the process, so we hope you’ll attend. If one of these meeting times does not work for your schedule, and you are part of a group or community organization that would like to schedule a different meeting time, we can arrange that as well.

2013 Visioning Process
We asked these same questions during the last visioning process in 2013, and we heard from almost 1,000 community members. Based on that feedback, we developed our current mission and core commitments and drafted a strategic plan. The district has been rigorous in pursuing the goals established by the community. Many of the initiatives undertaken five years ago have become routinized through the annual strategic planning process and regular operations of the district, including:
- use of a common instructional model;
- crew and Habits of a Scholar;
- differentiated supports for different student needs and learning challenges;
- more robust and embedded professional development;
- a commitment to instructional and leadership coaching;
- teacher and staff engagement in planning and decision-making;
- one-to-one laptops;
- aligning district and school budgets to strategic planning;
- increased and improved staff recruitment efforts; and
- higher quality and more systematic communications.
